Susan Stockwell is an internationally renowned artist who works across sculpture, installation, collage and film. Her work draws from everyday materials and products such as toilet paper, computer components, tea, maps and international paper currency that are manipulated and transformed into extraordinary artworks that question ecology, power structures, historic and present-day trade, and the post and neo-colonial implications of global commerce.
Susan also develops work through participatory art practice and has worked with a range of groups including prison inmates, Cuban refugees and veteran soldiers in rehabilitation. The project, Piece Makers was in collaboration with The National Army Museum London. In 2013 she made Sail Away, an interactive installation in the Turbine Hall, TATE Modern for the Hyperlink Festival. In 2014-2015 she was Artist in Residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford-upon-Avon where she made new work for the exhibition SEA-MARKINGS.
Susan is currently working on a new commission for The Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam. She has exhibited extensively around the world, including; TATE Modern, the Victoria & Albert Museum and Manchester City Art Gallery, UK, The National Museum of China, Beijing, The Hong Foundation, Taipei, Art League of Houston and The Katonah Museum of Art, USA. Her work is in public and private collections around the world, including The Victoria & Albert Museum, London and Yale Centre for British Art, USA.
