50 Rooms (installation) is a new installation by Natasha Davis, part of a series of modified furniture pieces whose static quality is intertwined with personal histories to comment on crossing borders and the transitory nature of lives. Each piece is related to ideas around the body as an architectural space that holds memories. Natasha’s installation work is often derived from and related to her live performance work. This series is connected with the performance 50 Rooms, which explores lives, spaces and times between breaking and repairing, and discusses ageing and being ‘infected’ – with new thoughts, utopian dreams and an arrival of something different in a space already claimed by others. The installation is linked to an episode in the performance dealing with ideas of home, body as a (medical) cabinet, using memories of distant events, magic realism, stem cells and martial arts.
Natasha is a performance and visual artist with over forty solo and collaborative projects in a range of media including live performance, installation, film and publication. Born in Croatia, lived in Serbia, Greece and Syria and now based in London, she has presented work extensively in venues, galleries and festivals in the UK and internationally on five continents, in Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Serbia, USA, Australia, India, Canada and South Africa.
